What it is
Railway hosts apps, databases, and workers from a repo or a container. Billing is usage-based. It is a common landing spot for a side project that needs a long-running process and a database, without operating Kubernetes.
Railway bills from usage. A trial credit or free allowance has existed; confirm what a new account receives on the pricing page. Dollar rates were not copied.
Why it ranks
- App and database hosting in one project
- Fits long-running services, not only static sites
- Usage-based, so a quiet prototype stays small
Watch outs
- A busy service can cost more than a flat hobby host
- Less specialized for Next.js previews than Vercel
